Introduction to Financial Literacy

Financial planning is the process of setting financial goals, developing a plan to achieve them, and putting the plan into action. Financial planning can have a big impact on the quality of your life, so it is important to follow the proper steps to be successful.

Please read each of the modules (1-6) - you are not required to complete the activities or assignments in the modules.

After you have read modules 1-6 : In your own words write a report according to the guideline below- there are four sections to combine into one report. (Each section is prefaced with the module number to assist with reference.)

Section One

Module 2 - Borrowing : (Good Debt, Bad Debt: Using credit wisely)
Write no more than 3 paragraphs.

  • Discuss the 5 C’s of credit and their importance in establishing and maintaining a good credit history.
  • Discuss different strategies needed to build/maintain a good credit history. Discuss two things that you can do to maintain a good credit score.

Section Two

Module 5 - Financial Services : (Your Money: Keeping it safe and secure)
Write no more than 3 paragraphs.

  • Explain the similarities and differences of a checking and savings accounts. Thoroughly explain three services that can make using a checking/savings account easier.
  • List and describe two ways to keep your money safe.

Section Three

Module 6 - Insurance: (Protecting what you have)
Write no more than 3 paragraphs.

  • Define what insurance is and explain four of the different types of insurance that you think you will use or have during your lifetime.

Section Four

Reference all Modules if necessary
Overall Goals and Money Management - write 5 paragraphs

  • What are SMART goals? Include one short-term, one intermediate, and one long-term goal.
  • List your financial plan to accomplish each goal.
  • Summarize the importance of having an organized financial plan to have a successful future.
